How to Buy

  1. Payment and Shipping

We prefer our clients to pay either by cheque or bank to bank transfer. We accept most credit or debit cards up to £2,000 (GBP) plus 3% on credit cards, £1 on debit cards. We do not accept credit card payments for sums over £2,000 for safety reasons regarding "customer not present" sales (sorry no higher - blame Indonesia!). In all cases regarding credit card sales, only one credit card may be used for the transaction and delivery must be to the address at which the credit card is registered. If the delivery address is different to that at which the credit card is registered, then only a cheque or bank to bank transfer will do. On a large item a 10% credit/debit card payment is sufficient as a deposit to reserve the item until you can arrange a cheque or bank transfer. A credit or debit card may be used for any bank transfer, shipping or insurance costs. We will let you know what these are before the transaction is undertaken.

To get an estimate of shipping costs we need a mailing address where the item can be signed for and a telephone number for the courier if he is lost or you are out. We will send you a copy of any bank charges incurred.

In the interests of your security, we do not accept online payments - we require a phone call or FAX to +44 (0)20 8876 1370, which is a secure landline, giving the number, the expiry date, the name in which the card is registered, the address at which it is registered and a contact telephone number.

All goods must be paid for and payment received and cleared before we will ship. Shipping and insurance costs are extra. Any duty payable to customs in your country is payable by you. Items over 100 years old do not attract duty shipping to the U.S.A. Anyone worried that we might jet off to the Bahamas with their funds (We wish!) rather then send them their jewellery are welcome to use Escrow services as do E-Bay, but plus their (rather high) fees for the service. Escrow services hold the funds for you until you confirm receipt of the jewellery. If you return it (on receipt), you bear all the costs of the shipping and any other charges and Escrow do not refund the money to you until we confirm the goods have arrived back IN THEIR ORIGINAL CONDITION. ( So for any nasties out there, yes you know who you are, don't even think of winkling out my nice diamond and replacing it with your inferior one, or even worse, a CZ!)

In all cases we will research for you the best way of shipping your purchases or will take your instructions. So please just e-mail us the reference numbers of the items in which you are interested. We will be delighted to answer any further questions you may have and we can discuss shipping and payment methods.

  2. Returns

We think we give you sufficient information and illustrations to let you make a good choice before you make a purchase. We will also answer any questions you might have or send more images by e-mail if this is necessary. However, we want our customers to stay happy, so if you are not completely delighted with your purchase we will give you a credit to buy something from this site at any time provided you send back the item in the condition in which it was sent, in the original packaging, and insured for the correct amount. You will however still be liable for the shipment costs to and from you. We also expect the goods back by return. (Sorry, we are not in the business of "hiring out" jewellery for parties although I am sure none of OUR customers would consider that!)

  3. Guarantees

Our goods come with a guarantee that they are as described. The metals and gemstones are as stated. Diamond grading is a subjective art, not a science. You will have our best opinion which should not differ by much from other professional jewellers' opinions. Likewise our historical notes are opinions based on years of experience and reading. Forgive us if you knew all this anyway. Those items which are old will be described as such. All other items you should assume are either new or recently second hand.

  4. Finally

This works. We trust you, you trust us and we both benefit. Explore and buy!
