| Description: | This sardonynx hardstone portrait cameo of a woman in Elizabethan dress wearing a heart and a cross and a ruff is probably Mary Stewart, Queen of Scots, a subject often illustrated, painted and written about since her beheading for treason by Elizabeth I in the 16th century. The frame is 18ct gold, decorated with white and turquoise enamel. There is a matching removeable bale so that the cameo may be worn as a pendant. Circa 1870 |
